Atheist TV is Coming Soon!

Well it looks like Atheist T.V. is about to launch and it’s starting to get a little publicity.

I found this article today on a conservative website. The article is positive from my view. Amazing that atheists are in no way denigrated, the only question being who will watch this channel and isn’t it a bit like preaching to the choir?

Well, yes, it is preaching to the choir but just like many evangelical shows on cable, they hope to reach others as well. The article does bring this up and even briefly discusses the percentage of non-believers that are thought to be potential viewers.

The down side? And I’ve thought this from when I first read about this a while back: it’s only available on the Roku device right now. I don’t know about you, but I don’t currently own a Roku. I do have an old, second generation Apple TV and I recently purchased the Amazon Fire TV box (which is fantastic, BTW!).

I’m not currently going to buy another streaming device just to receive a single channel (operative word there is “currently”). I would hope that if this channel does start receiving a decent viewership that American Atheists can make programming deals with the other two.

In the meantime, I wish Atheist T.V. the best. If you have a Roku, please keep the rest of us informed as to what you think about the quality of the content, understanding that in the beginning, it might not live up to your expectations.

  1. As someone currently in the market for a streaming device, I’d actually buy a Roku just for this channel if I knew it was going to stay free. But since that seems unlikely and I have no idea how much programming on Roku generally costs, I’m not willing to take the plunge just yet.
